ERI Active During March Human Rights Council Session in Geneva
ERI was very active during the recently concluded session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Based on information provided by members of relevant local Edmund Rice Networks and their partners, statements were delivered relating to:
– Child Sexual Exploitation as part of the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Exploitation of Children
– Homelessness in the UK and Northern Ireland as part of the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing as well as statements as part of the General Debates on issues of human rights concern. These included:-
– Stateless children in South Africa, the response of the South African government delivered in the session can also be viewed here.
– Female genital mutilation in Kenya
– Direct Provision System for Refugees in Ireland and
– Air pollution in New Delhi
In addition ERI were co-signatories to statements delivered with several partners on:-
– Human Rights and Climate Change,
– the recent UPR of Bolivia and a response to the report of the – Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief which disturbingly appeared to deny the right of health care professionals to follow their conscience and refuse to carry out abortions.
